Your High-Altitude Baking Guide

If you’ve ever followed a baking recipe perfectly and still ended up flat, you’re not alone! Living in Colorado means baking comes with its own personality, and our elevation plays a big role in how recipes turn out. With the holidays coming up, here are a few helpful tips that make high-altitude baking a whole lot easier.

Why Elevation Changes Everything
At higher elevations, the air pressure is lower, which means moisture evaporates faster and baked goods rise quicker. Small tweaks can completely transform your results:
  1. Add a little extra flour for more structure
  2. Increase your oven temp slightly so things set before they over-rise
  3. Decrease sugar slightly so cookies & cakes don’t collapse
  4. Add a bit more liquid to counter quick evaporation
  5. Check early as bake times can be shorter up here
